When you buy the Glo Stone product is to wash the gravel before you put it in your tank or aquarium.  This is something that can work under water or on the surface for something like a turtle, but there seems to be a little bit of dye that needs to get washed off the stones before the first real use.  You can just wash it right in the aquarium if you want or pour them into a bucket and do it there.  Also use hot water in order to clean up the gravel. The Large Blue Gravel Glo-stone is suitable for use in all aquarium types.
